Emergency Response

Aarhus University-wide emergency response must ensure that the university is informed as soon as possible about acute physical threats and have management and relevant staff activated to deal with the situation as soon as possible.

How to react in case of a fire, accident or life-threatening situation:

  • Stop the accident if you can without putting yourself at risk
  • Call 112 and evacuate if necessary
  • Call AU’s emergency phone number (+45) 87 15 26 17
  • Then contact following, depending on the location:

What can you do?

  • Read about the University-wide emergency response plan at beredskab.au.dk and keep up to date.
  • If you are designated to have a special emergency role, you have received an action card that you should have on you.
  • Keep an eye on the alarm instructions, which hangs in all buildings at AU. Download and print if missing in some places or where it is appropriate.
  • Update your phone list/contacts in your phone with relevant people’s contact info.
  • Review the crisis procedures in your department. Discuss what could be a realistic crisis at your department – see overview of crisis scenarios.
  • Inform new colleagues about the emergency response. 

Evacuation and fire drills 2023

Below are the recent evacuation drills. Louise Kruse Have is the coordinator.

  • Drill held in Buildings 1535, 1540, and 1550 - May 20, 2025
  • Drill held in Biokæden, Buildings from 1130 to 1135 - August 20, 2025
  • Drill will be held in Biologiens Hus, Buildings 1221-1223 - September/October 2025
  • Drill will be held in the Herbarium, Building 1137 - September/October 2025

In case of an emergency

  • BE PREPARED make sure that your mobile is charged and switched on.
  • REMEMBER YOUR NETWORK inform those who may be called on to take your place. 
  • THINK ABOUT what to wear, as you may have to spend time outdoors.
  • IF YOU ARE CALLED TO ACTION cancel all your engagements and inform your network (work and home).
  • ONLY SPEAK to the press by agreement with AU’s head of press and communication.
