Project supplement

ATTENTION:

These are general guidelines. The foundations are free to adjust some elements.

Read the specific guidelines in the call every time.

What is project supplement

  • You must apply for project supplement when applying for funding from a number of Danish private foundations.
  • The foundations will cover some of the derived expenses of externally funded projects through a ”project supplement”
  • This ”project supplement” will have the same effect as an overhead, covering indirect expenses, basic consumables and basic infrastructure.
  • The project supplement applies to projects up to DKK 50 mio. from the foundations below
    • Novo Nordisk Foundation
    • Villum Foundation
    • Velux Foundation
    • Lundbeck Foundation
    • Carlsberg Foundation
    • LEO Foundation

How is the project supplement calculated?

The size of the project supplement is calculated by multiplying a fixed rate for the project supplement with each fulltime employment (FTE) of certain types of scientific roles funded by the project:

  • Postdocs
  • PhD students
  • Research Assistant

The project supplement is calculated automatically and covers a fair part of the project's indirect costs for infrastructure and administration.

The fixed rate of the project supplement is DKK 250,000 per fulltime employment (FTE). The rate is regulated annually. You can always find the current rate in the specific call from the foundation.

Salaries for Faculty members

The implementation of the project supplement means that salaries for faculty members (Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors) can no longer be included as a direct cost in the project budget.

Salaries for technical and administrative roles

Can in some cases be be included as a direct project cost, but this is variable for each call.

Core facilities

We can include fees from ”core facilities” as a direct cost of the project (eg. Aurora).
